Sylvia is an award-winning travel photographer, and her photos have appeared in The Washington Post, on Lonely Planet, disability-related magazines, and in her two accessible travel photography books. One of her professional goals is to increase representation of wheelchair users in commercial print media.



Books
Since 2005, Ms. Longmire has been a subject matter expert on Mexico’s drug war and border security. She is the author of two books on these issues: Cartel (2011) and Border Insecurity (2014), and currently writes for American Military University’s InHomeland Security site.

Her accessible travel writing has been featured in The New York Times, New Mobility magazine, The Orlando Sentinel, and Lonely Planet, She has published four accessible travel-related books – including the award-winning solo wheelchair travel memoir What Happened to You?, the award-winning definitive guide Everything You Need to Know About Wheelchair Accessible Cruising, and a book on how wheelchair users can earn money writing from home, Blogging While Disabled.
